About Itaú

In 2008, two of the leading banks in Brazil merged to create an even bigger and stronger bank, Itaú Unibanco Holding. Today, Itaú is the largest Latin American bank and one of the ten largest banks¹ on the planet, with over 104,000 employees and operations in 19 countries throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe. In Brazil alone, Itaú has nearly 5,000 branches and 30,000 ATMs.

Speaking of the planet, we at Itaú cannot think about delivering results without demonstrating our commitment to sustainability. We were named Sustainable Bank of the Year in the 2011 FT/IFC Sustainable Finance Awards, chosen by the Financial Times and IFC (International Finance Corporation), the World Bank's financial arm.

We believe that in order to sustain our business, we must also deliver long-lasting value to everyone involved.

And how do we do that?

By considering society. In 2011, Itaú's social and cultural investments added up to more than $156 million. The bank has been a pioneer in supporting art and culture since the creation of Instituto Itaú Cultural in 1987, and Itaú currently owns one of Brazil's largest private art collections. Fundação Itaú Social, the social investment arm of Itaú, was the only Brazilian institution invited to take part in the Innovation Fair at the annual meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council in July, 2011.

By considering the environment. Our vision is to be "a leading bank in sustainable performance and customer satisfaction." The practices embedded in the daily routines of Itaú's employees are examples of our concern with advancing a sustainability agenda that will guide our operations as a leading institution in the market. Our policies, platforms and guidelines, developed in collaboration with our employees, ensure that our management moves ever closer to truly sustainable business practices, for the sake of our clients and of society as a whole. It's no surprise that in 2011 we were included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the twelfth consecutive year.

By considering returns. We know that numbers are important, and that's why we are keen to deliver strong results to those who trust us. Itaú's recurring net income reached $7.8 billion in 2011. At the end of the year the bank's total assets amounted to $453.8 billion, representing a 13.3% increase compared to 2010. In 2011, for the second consecutive year, Itaú Unibanco ranked among the ten largest banks in the world, with a market capitalization of $81.4 billion.
